Management Team Biographies

John Illingworth
John Illingworth - Managing Director
Having gained over 30 years of experience, initially at ICI (now AstraZeneca) and then at Serono, John became a freelance Clinical Research Manager in 1996. He founded Clinical Development and Support Services Ltd (CDSS) in 1998. John spent 10 years teaching on the MSc in Clinical Research, Diploma and Certificate courses at Liverpool John Moores University, and is still an honorary lecturer there. He was on the executive committee of the Association of Clinical Research in the pharmaceutical industry (now the Institute for Clinical Research) for 6 years. Whilst gaining his Institute of Directors Diploma in company direction, John continued to oversee the steady expansion of CDSS, promoting the company both within the UK and overseas to the biotech, pharmaceutical and medical device industries.

Melanie Haisley PhD - Director of Clinical Operations
Having completed a PhD in cell biology at the University of Manchester, Melanie joined CDSS in 2000. She then gained several years experience as a CRA and in project management covering all phases of trials and in multiple therapeutic areas. Subsequently Melanie was promoted to CRA Team Manager, managing a growing team of CRAs, before being appointed Director of Clinical Operations.

Sue Mackay - Research Nursing Team Manager

Sue Mackay, Research Nurse Team Manager joined CDSS
in January 2003. Sue has over 25 years experience in nursing and 10 years in research nursing, particularly in the oncology and cardiology fields. She has worked in both the commercial and non-commercial (MRC and Cancer Research UK) sectors. Sue has led the research nursing team since April 2004, managing a team of field based research nurses and study site co-ordinators who are based throughout the UK.

Lynda Illingworth - Finance & Administration Manager
Lynda has a varied background, with over 25 years in legal, finance & administration roles. Following many years in the Lord Chancellors department she then trained with a Manchester firm of solicitors. Subsequently, she went onto train as a law costs draftsman and following this she started her own successful law costs drafting business. Lynda joined CDSS in 1999, basis initially on a part-time basis but now runs the Finance & Administration department of CDSS.

Ian Illingworth
Ian Illingworth - Information Technology & Systems Manager
Ian has worked for CDSS since its formation. Ian has a scientific background, obtaining an applied biology degree at Coventry University before undertaking post graduate research at Manchester University. Following this he trained as a CRA whilst continuing with IT studies. He now has sole responsibility for IT & systems, including an IT training role with the Company.
